While it is easy to hurt your neck during everyday activities such as sleeping or painting your ceiling, it is also very possible to find yourself with pain caused by any number of injuries. One of the most common injuries that results in neck pain is whiplash in a car accident. The sudden and often unexpected movement can cause significant pain and discomfort after an automobile accident. Falling, hitting your head and rough sports also can cause serious pain and injury.

Sometimes, no matter how careful we are, neck pain is unavoidable due to an underlying medical condition. Ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and torticollis are all medical conditions that can greatly impact your neck. Other illnesses such as the flu and meningitis can cause aches and inflammation.
