Two Exercises that will help with Neck Pain

In order to learn how to strengthen the exercises, it is important to learn the right exercises and how to perform them. It is always important to make sure to use the proper form to get the best results and to prevent any further damage to the neck muscles. These two exercises are a great way to build the muscles of the neck and help reduce pain.

  • The chin tuck – This is a simple exercise that can be done several times a day. It can be done almost anywhere and requires very little time. The result is relief from neck pain and a strengthening of the muscles. It also helps properly aligning the muscles. As the muscles get stronger the pain in the neck should be eased. Performing the chin tuck requires standing up against a hard surface such as a door jamb. If standing is not possible, it is okay to do this exercise sitting down. Pull the head back as you are up against the jamb and keep the chin tucked down. Hold that position for about 5 seconds and repeat 10 times.
  • Prone Cobra – This exercise may be a little more difficult to do. Lie face down with a towel to support the forehead. Place the arms at the side. Push the tongue up to the roof of the mouth. Pull the shoulder blades together, pull the arms up with the palms up and lift the forehead about an inch. Hold the position for 10 seconds and repeat 10 times.

These are two exercises that take less than 5 minutes to do. Learn how they and other exercises can help relieve neck pain by contacting Epic Healthcare & Physical Medicine for more information.
